Walking Rugby at North Bristol RFC - Saturday 18 May
Salisbury RFC’s Walking Rugby squad travelled to North Bristol RFC on Saturday for the second of this year’s Walking Rugby festivals.
North Bristol hosted a highly entertaining tournament for 12 teams in excellent conditions on their RFU provided 5G playing surface.
Salisbury were well captained by Andy Pickering and ably coached by Richard Lloyd, Del Gurney and Nicky Stockley who topped the team’s try scoring. They were also introduced to new opposition from South Wales in Dragons (an NHS team) and Taffs Well RFC. Taffs Well were particularly competitive and enjoyed playing a similar open and high tempo game to Salisbury.
The purpose of the tournament was to provide the opportunity to enjoy a day of rugby and not to determine a winner. That said, Salisbury were pleased to have won 5 and drawn 1, the final match against Gloucester. Salisbury’s walkers will travel to Crediton for the next tournament on Saturday 8th June and training continues at Castle Road at 6.30pm every Thursday.
