Walking Rugby with Trowbridge RFC - Saturday 28 October

Walking rugby at Castle Road is going from strength-to-strength. Underlined by a strong fixture list and Saturday’s home fixture versus Trowbridge RFC.

Over the last three years Salisbury RFC has strengthened an already thriving community club with the addition of Walking Rugby. This is a simplified version of Rugby for ex-players, injured players and non-players of all ages, abilities and gender who enjoy an active and passing game using a rugby ball. Salisbury were one of the founding clubs within a new sport that his spreading throughout much of England. The club runs its own annual tournament in which 12 teams compete for the Pat Clash trophy. Pat was a long-standing member of the club and an architect of the walking format.

On Saturday Salisbury hosted teams from Trowbridge RFC and played a series of matches throughout the afternoon. Players of mixed abilities participated without the added pressure of physical contact. The score-line did not matter; during these friendly fixtures emphasis is very much on learning and enjoyment enhanced by friendship and camaraderie.
