Winchester 62 - Salisbury 3

Salisbury travelled to Winchester for round five in Regional 2 South Central on Saturday. Both teams started brightly. A converted try from Winchester after only five minutes was quickly followed by a converted penalty from Salisbury’s Tom Tully two minutes later. It was, however, a difficult afternoon for the visitors who failed to score for the remainder of the match.

Salisbury conceded too many penalties to make any significant progress. This included conceding two yellow cards on 25 and 29 minutes. Having endured a short period with only 13 men, Salisbury did well to limit the hosts to two tries and two penalties in the first half.

With the score at 18 – 3 at the start of the second half, Salisbury had left themselves too much to do. Despite their tireless efforts and a number of promising attacks, penalties continued to hurt the visitors. They were unable to get back on terms and Winchester added two further converted penalties and six tries to reach 62 – 3 at the final whistle.

Salisbury will enjoy a break from league fixtures next week before hosting Newbury on Saturday 14th October at Castle Road.
