Salisbury 7-34 Stow on the Wold
24th. September 2022 - Salisbury welcomed Stow on the Wold to Castle Road and the visitors brought with them an impressive unbeaten record. The hosts however were determined to show no respect and in an energetic start took the game to the visitors.
Dom Porter was in the tick of the action throughout throwing himself at the visitors three quarter line and making good ground. However, in an error strewn game, Salisbury’s desire to run the ball when some more judicial kicking for the corners may have served them better.
A period of prolonged pressure saw Stow defend their line admirably but with the defence in tight the home side shifted the ball right and Ben Wheeler was in for the opening score; Matt Ryan added the extras.
Stow upped their act and a slick move saw them pull a score back and then shortly before half time a converted try stretched the lead to 7-12. Salisbury were very much in the match but could not cross for another score whereas the visitors looked dangerous on the break. In the last fifteen minutes a visibly tiring home side conceded penalty then a try, heads dropped, and Stow followed up with two more scores as the tackling fell away.
A disappointing score line given the effort shown but the coaching team will have much to think about before the trip to Marlborough next Saturday.
