Salisbury RFC U15s welcomed a touring London Welsh side to Castle Rd. on Saturday morning. The boys got to play on the Main Pitch in fantastic conditions with a Society referee and a good sized vocal crowd.

London Welsh quickly put us under pressure and Salisbury conceded way too many penalties fo offside and breakdown offences. These have been problem areas all season and will (yet again!) be a major focus at training. Salisbury eased their way back into the game and Ben L-P made a great break up the right wing before stepping inside to score under the posts. Sam Waters added the extra 2 with an excellent kick. Soon after Carlos K drove through a maul to make it 12 – 0. Sam continued his good kicking with an excellent conversion. Salisbury soaked up a lot of pressure and it was good to see our tackling percentage increasing. Just before half time Carlos broke away down the left wing and scored again to make it 19-0 at the turn around.

SRFC used the break to make a number of changes and, unsurprisingly, the team lost a bit of its structure and rhythm as players got used to the new set up. LWRFC came out for the second half all fired up and took advantage of our changes to score two quick tries and make it 19-12. Salisbury slowly got their mojo back and were denied twice by the Referee for being held up over the line. Eventually Carlos finished his hat trick with a pick and go off the back of a scrum to make it 24 -12. But London Welsh weren’t finished and they continued to apply pressure in the closing minutes – Salisbury defended aggressively but a number of infringements resulted in a penalty try for the game to end 24-19.

Well done to all the squad a really competitive and dogged display! There are a number of areas to work on - Line Discipline, Attacking Pods and the ever=present Breakdown. Maximum attendance at training this Wednesday and next week please as we run up to the Cup Final. It's Basingstoke RFC away next week. This will be our last preparation game – let’s play to the finish!

See you all on Wednesday. Well done!
