U15s beat Royal Wootton Bassett in D&W cup

Salisbury U15s beat Royal Wootton Basset 15-0 in their 2nd D&W Cup match on 23rd September.

Salisbury U15s second D&W cup game kicked off at Royal Wootton Basset in the pouring rain. Like the previous Sunday, the first 15 minutes was very evenly matched with good defence on good sides - neutralising opportunities. The chance came for SRFC after the ball went wide to Jacob Pike and he made ground to near the RWB line. A series of pick and go phases by the forwards got even closer and Dylan was nearly close enough to reach out. But he wisely set it back for another phase. Thomas Toze got set to 'feet' it again with Joss latched on and the explosive momentum of the two got Thomas close enough to reach out a long arm and score on the line. Just before half time another rumble by the forwards created our second try and was converted by Bryon. It was 12 - 0 at the break.

RWB came back strongly in the second half and it was only solid tackling by every SRFC player that shut down their big runners. Plus intelligent kicking by Byron to dig SRFC out of their 22. Alex had a great run up the wing, interchanging with other players, but was driven in to touch. A penalty at the ruck for SRFC about 35 metres out was kicked over superbly by Byron. There were more chances as the clock was running down - Byron had the ball stripped from him as he was about to put it down over the line and the wet conditions the ball was fumbled out wide once or twice. Final score was a well deserved 15-0. Victory to Salisbury.

A special mention to the back row players Billy, Danny and Dylan who were relentless hunting down ball carriers and bossing the ruck. Man of the match went to Thomas Toze for a great all round match in the scrum, the ruck, tackling and scoring. Congratulations to Luke on his first match for Salisbury - a very promising start.
