U15s Enjoy Day Out in Bournemouth
Salisbury U15s 41 - 29 Bournemouth U15s
Tries: Charles Kantolinna (2), Jon Kenyon (2), Harvey Drewett, Sam Waters, Adam Lucas
Cons: Sam Waters (3)
On the back of a big win last week SRFC U15s travelled to Bournemouth RFC for a friendly with a large squad of 26 players. To enable both sides to maximise player playing time the match was played over 4 quarters of 20 minutes each.
Quarter 1 set the scene and both teams started strongly. SRFC went ahead from a mistake by Bournemouth with Jon Kenyon grounding after a hack through and Sam Waters adding the extra 2. Bournemouth applied pressure and kicked through before Salisbury conceded a penalty try for a tackle without the ball. Carlos K then drove hard and Sam converted to make it 14-7 at the first break.
From the KO Adam Lucas picked up a loose ball, put on the afterburners and scored a great try from the half way line. Having rung the changes at the break SRFC lost a bit of their defensive shape and Bournemouth came back strongly to score 4 tries to lead 29-19 at the end of the second period.
After the break both teams played well before Aidan Grant crossed the whitewash to narrow the gap to 5 points. As we moved in to the 4th Quarter Salisbury upped the tempo and finished the stronger of the 2 sides running in 3 tries from Harvey Drewett, Carlos K, Sam Waters and Jon Kenyon with Sam converting 1 to finish 41-29.
The performance bodes well for the next D&W Cup game next Sunday – but we still have areas to improve on and w will work on these at training on Wednesday (maximum turnout please!). Well done everyone…
