Saturday 20th. April 2024: The 1st XV made the short trip to Newbury to contest the quarter-final of the Papa John's Men's Community Cup. Newbury had beaten Salisbury twice during the league season, but the away match in January had been very close. With Salisbury showing much improved form in last weekend's defeat of Reading, hopes were high for an upset.
In perfect Spring conditions Salisbury welcomed Reading to Castle Road in the first round of the Papa John’s Community Cup. The hosts had inflicted two narrow defeats on Reading in the league and they made it three-from-three with a further but more convincing 39 – 12 win.
6th. April 2024 - The 1st XV travelled to Chichester for the final league game of the season. Chichester had visited Salisbury for the season opener back in September, which we narrowly won after a scrappy and low-scoring game.
A substantial crowd gathered at Castle Road for Salisbury’s penultimate league match against Farnham, a side who had convincingly beaten the hosts in December. Salisbury needed a bonus point win to reduce their chances of relegation but it wasn’t to be. Despite leading 8 – 7 at halftime, Salisbury were unable to secure the win eventually losing 11 – 28.
Salisbury travelled to local rivals Wimborne on Saturday. A win would have significantly improved their chances of avoiding relegation but it wasn’t to be. They faced a well organised Wimborne XV who used their superior forward pack and strength in midfield to inflict Salisbury’s 6th league defeat this year.
