Under the coaching of Geoff Wilman and his team, our Girl’s rugby section was formed last season providing training sessions every Sunday morning for anyone in the under 13 to under 18 age-groups (school years 8 to 13). We made a conscious decision to have the Girls training alongside the rest of the Mini and Junior sections on a Sunday morning, so that they quickly become integrated within the club, emphasizing Salisbury Rugby’s #oneclub approach.
Whilst the Girls Section was primarily set up to just provide girls in the Salisbury & District area the opportunity to try and play rugby, through coaching and skill development, we will of course look to develop the ability of everyone who comes. With England the reigning World Champions, and able to offer aspiring sportswomen a professional career, just like the success of the boys in producing International players such as England star Mike Brown, Scotland flyhalf Tom Heathcoate and Canadian playmaker Matthew Evans, we are keen to ensure any girl that wants to play at the highest level has that option. In our first season, two of our under 15’s girls, Lily Roberts & Anais Wilman, have been selected for Dorset and Wiltshire and the opportunity to go further in the girls rugby pathway.
