Report

The squad put together a great performance in the first of our two back-to-back D&W Cup Games. A great response from the squad reference availability made the selection decisions really difficult for the coaching squad as the squad size is limited by the competition rules.

Playing on the Main Pitch added to the occasion as the players ran out.SRFC received the ball from KO in the first half and Perry Sanderson drove the ball back hard encapsulating how we intended to play. The team built on this before Perry crossed for the first try with Sam adding the extra 2. The Backs then joined in with Harvey Drewett finishing off a fine move through the hands off the back line with Charlie W and Alex B combining well – with Sam again slotting the extra two over to make it 14-0. SRFC extended their lead when Adam scored out wide. Sam’s form at kicking continued with 3 from 3. Salisbury continued to dominate with Harvey D scoring again before Carlos K grabbed a brace. Sam’s boots were on fire as he added another 2 from 3. Half Time 40-0…

A number of changes took place at half time as the coaching staff rang the changes. Once the team settled, Finley Jenkins at Second Row for the first time, crossed the whitewash before Sam converted his own try. The Backs exploited the platform provided by the hard work of the forwards for Arthur to nip in and Harvey to complete his hat trick.

Final score 62-0. A great result and a fantastic start to the cup competition. Still room to improve as we take on Trowbridge away next Sunday in what should be a hard and competitive game. We then go on to training before playing Corsham in a friendly when we will bring in those players not selected for the cup.

Well done everyone – a great game and awesome Squad performance. See you at training on Wednesday…
