North Dorset took full advantage of their home fixture by playing on their smallest pitch with a single, under-inflated ball. It was a below-par performance as the U15s struggled to adjust to the conditions and the opposition’s limited game plan.
The boys started strongly, showing great intent, but failed to execute with the final pass on at least 3 occasions in the first 15 minutes. This set the tone for the rest of the first half as we continued to frustrate ourselves before Adam Lucas and Harvey Drewett scored to give us a 10-5 lead turning round.
NDRFC tired in the second half and Salisbury continued to apply the pressure but still made a number of simple mistakes and struggled with slow ball. Tries from Carlos K, Alfie Maidment and Adam and Harvey (again) were enough to give a comprehensive winning margin, but not the performance we wanted. That said, it was a job well-done and we can work on a few things over the next few weeks. Overall it was a good lesson in the need to adapt to different opposition tactics and let the ball do the work.
Well done to the whole squad. It was great to see so many on the touchline again. A special shout out to the U14s who won their Cup game on the main pitch next door. The NDRFC speedsters were outgunned by their SRFC counterparts!
We go to Devizes for the final Group game on 28 Jan. See you all at training on Wednesday.
