U15 vs Newbury
SRFC U15s travelled to Newbury RFC for a hastily arranged friendly as part of the build up to the D&W Cup Final with a large squad of 24 players. Newbury put out their ‘A’Team and after a slow start Salisbury responded well.
NRFC went ahead early on to establish 5-0 lead before Salisbury managed to respond after a break through the middle from Sam W before Perry crossed the whitewash to make it 7-5 to SRFC with sam W slotting over the extra 2. SRFC started to perform better at the breakdown and Ollie Smith finished off a good ‘team’ ry after a number of phases. Sam W aded the extra 2 again to make it 14-5. Before half time NRFC scored again to make it 14-10 to Salisbury at half time.
SRFC made 9 changes at half time which had an initial impact on team structure and cohesion which NRFC took full advantage of with 2 tries in quick succession to make it 22-14 to Newbury. Salisbury rallied, and had the majority of territorial play in the rest of the second half but we couldn’t execute accurately to finish off our possession.
A really good team ‘hit up’ and bodes well for the visit of London Welsh next SATURDAY. Maximum attendance at training on Wednesday please – plenty of ‘work on’s’ to help the preparation for the final. Well done everyone…!
