U15s beat Trowbridge in D&W Cup match 11th November

Salisbury U15s hosted Trowbridge on 11th November in the fourth of its D&W cup matches on the main pitch.

From a line out maul near the opposition try line, strong drives by Dylan and Danny were repelled but served the purpose to suck opposition defence in, so that when Leo sent the ball wide through Callum K and Sam to Byron he was able to cut back in to score near the post and convert. A very similar try was scored by Fraser O'G shortly afterwards with the forwards rumbling forward then being sent through the hands to the wing. After some midweek training work, the Salisbury rucking was much improved over earlier matches, with sharper timing, physicality and intelligence in deciding numbers to put in. Luke and Alex stood up solidly at second row despite the weight advantage of the opposition.

After heroic defending for several minutes on the Salisbury line, one of the Trowbridge boys was injured and the match was moved to the Prairie while waiting for an ambulance. Thankfully the injury was not serious and he will be back in a few weeks.

Seb and Callum G put some good tackles in and after a turnover on their 22, Leo box kicked from the ruck, Byron chased and tackled the receiver who set the ball back with a classic long placement, but with no team mates in support, no ruck was formed and Fraser D had the presence of mind to scoop the ball up and touch it down over the line.

Trowbridge scored two unconverted tries, using their big units to pick and go very effectively. Shortly after, Byron kicked a penalty from about 40 metres out, then after a messy lineout Dylan cleared up, made some ground and set the ruck, so that the ball could go down the back line for Callum G on the wing to score. Not long after, Dylan again made ground, bouncing off two tackles and managed to get the ball away to Byron who beat two players on the line to score.

Well done to Ignacio for his first cup game for Salisbury - he played a part in the win.

Final score 25:10 to Salisbury.
