U15s maintain 100% D&W Cup Record

Salisbury U15s 55 - 10 Devizes U15s (H/T 17-10)

Tries - Charles Kantolinna (3), Jon Kenyon, Fin Jenkins, Harvey Drewett, Alfie Maidment, Rory Packwood, Penalty Try

Conversions - Sam Waters (4)

SRFC U15s welcomed Devizes RFC to Salisbury for the 3rd of their 6 Dorset & Wilts Cup Pool matches. Following back to back wins against North Dorset and Trowbridge, Salisbury were in confident mood and looking forward to enjoying the wide open (and flat!) spaces offered by the main pitch. The team and crowd observed a 2 minutes silence to mark Armistice Day SRFC elected to receive the KO.

Despite an (uncharacteristically)  good warm-up SRFC were still in the stalls at KO and knocked on, setting the tone for the opening 10 minutes. Devizes drove deep into the 22 and were awarded a penalty which they duly converted. Salisbury rallied and Jon Kenyon went over after chasing a good, accurate kick through by Alexander Bairstow who had just made a try saving tackle at the other end. Sam Waters added a good conversion to make it 7-3 to SRFC. Unfortunately further pressure from Devizes, and poor discipline at the breakdown, was rewarded with a penalty try for Devizes to take a 3 point lead. Eventually Salisbury woke up and Carlos K crashed over the line followed by a penalty try of our own for an off the ball tackle. SRFC were up and running and went into the break 19-10 up.

It had taken the U15s nearly until half time to get themselves into the game. After the break their improving fitness levels started to pay off. Fin Jenkins scored an early try off a quick tap penalty with Sam adding the afters. Sustained pressure saw Harvey Drewett score the most fluid try of the game, with all the backs taking advantage of the forwards strong platform. 31-10 to SRFC with a quarter of the game to go. Points difference could come into the final standings so the boys were keen to extend the difference as far as possible.Carlos K completed his hat-trick with a quick brace and Alfie Maidment used his power to smash through the centre of a breakdown and score his first try this year under the posts. Rory Packwood finished the scoring after a bruising charge from Rhino Sainsbury up the right flank. The front rowers had a very strong game against a big Devizes pack and can all be very proud of their work. Likewise Agent P and Bourney Jr who made a thorough nuisance of themselves all afternoon.

Final whistle saw a 55-10 SRFC victory. A good hard win after a flaky start. It's Chippenham away next Sunday in what should be a real benchmark of our progress this season so far.  Maximum attendance at training this week please. Well done to all the players. A good, solid win.
