U15 v Tottonians
Salisbury U15s 12 - 14 Tottonians U15s
Tries: Charles Kantolinna, Olly Westmacott
Cons: Sam Waters
SRFC U15s suffered their first defeat of the season after 5 impressive wins away at Tottonians. Half Term took its toll and Salisbury travelled with a limited squad of 19 and played in very strong windy conditions.
Playing in to the wind Salisbury weathered the strong start by Tottonians and defended well against a physical pack. After a period of concerted pressure Tottonians crossed for 5 and then converted to take a 7-0 lead. Salisbury bounced back and Carlos K scored to make it 7-5 with the extra 2 going astray.
Salisbury built on this period of pressure and Olly Westmacott scored on his debut (as Flanker) with a strong run before Sam Waters kicked for the extra 2 for SRFC to go in at Half Time 12-7 up.
The break provided the opportunity to rotate a few players and give everybody playing time. Playing with the wind SRFC built up a period of sustained pressure before Will Thompson had a try disallowed for a forward pass. The second half continued this way with Salisbury narrowly missing out on a further 2 tries in the corner.
Frustratingly, late in the game Tottonians scored a try off a quick penalty which they then converted to steal a win 14-12. Whilst the result was disappointing the team played well and showed some exciting attacking flair. Most satisfying was the way they played in the first half in difficult conditions and how they managed the game. Well done!
As always, some lessons to be learned… Particularly the ability to recognise when they need to adapt defensively if the Referee is repeatedly calling them for offside infringements! That said, a good performance and we now look forward positively to next Sunday and Sherbourne RFC…
