Chippenham Teach U15s a Tough Lesson
SRFC 0 - 44 Chippenham
The U15s showed their charitable side when they travelled to Chippenham.
Playing against potential D&W Cup opponents, with a small but experienced squad, they produced their worst performance of the season as Chippenham helped themselves to a 44-0 romp. With the Ashes about to start the boys seemed to invoke the 1986 England cricket team with their “can’t tackle, can’t kick, and can’t pass” approach. SRFC made too many mistakes, giving away ball and territory far too easily. In fairness, Chippenham were well drilled and good value for their win. They neutralised SRFC’s ball carriers, with strong gang tackling, and slowed down any ball the boys did manage to retain. They cleverly moved their point of attack away from the breakdown and put the ball simply through hands until they found space. It was a good lesson in the importance of simple skill execution.
