CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Welcome to the 2023/24 season
As another new season begins, it feels it feels good that things are now back to normal, with the bonus of the World Cup to look forward to. Last season saw our centenary celebrations culminate in the Centenary Dinner with guest speaker Nigel Owens. This, along with multiple events during the year, was a huge success with a large amount being raised for the RFU Injured Players Fund. Surprisingly, the Henry Tuilagi gin bar proved exceptionally popular.
The 1st XV Men continue the campaign in Regional 2 South Central, but with the re-organisation of the league there are a lot of new faces to welcome this season, including a highly anticipated trip to Jersey. The 2nd and 3rd Men’s teams continue in their respective D&W leagues, knowing how competitive the rugby is at this level. I would encourage support of all teams, but especially the 2nd and 3rd teams if the 1st XV is playing away as I know it will be greatly appreciated.
Player availability is a significant factor in all our senior team's successes and the whole Club is committed to producing a positive culture across all the teams to encourage and sustain player engagement. Commitment over the past 18 months has been outstanding with an increase in numbers training with new players being openly welcomed.
The Women's team have struggled to increase numbers and, unfortunately, at the start of this season we are still unable to provide Women’s rugby which is a huge disappointment. The aim for the coming season is to build the Ladies numbers so that we can provide ladies’ rugby once again.
Walking Rugby continues to grow and is now well established with a full program. Training numbers are high, and several festivals were attended with fun being had by all. The Salisbury WR festival was extremely well supported and will become a main fixture in the calendar. Their sportsmanship and enthusiasm are to be applauded.
The Youth section is buoyant, and we expect to be welcoming many new and existing players to the game. We look forward to the children reaping the rewards of the high-quality coaching Salisbury RFC provides this season and beyond.
Finally, I remind you of the many social events that take place at the Clubhouse. Along with the usual social activities, including VP lunches and fine dining evenings. Please support these events as they are vital to keep the club operating and providing rugby for the local community.
I look forward to seeing you at the Club to enjoy all the successes and challenges the season has to offer.
